It is rare for a Borderline person to lose the ability to consent, and when they do it is time for immediate hospitalization.

The Borderline person’s problems and struggle are not suddenly foisted upon the favorite person in abdication because they can’t ’help it.’

To advocate such is dangerous.

This thinking perpetuates a form of mental health stigma. It erodes trust of people with Borderline, and fosters greater justifications for dismissal, delegitimization, and coercion in the name of ‘care.’ The Borderline person is further seen as not an adult mentally and becomes infantilized.

Some Borderline individuals, seemingly ignorant of the ramifications, assert this thinking in a misguided effort to not be held responsible for the situations they find themselves in, with which I sympathize but do not condone. A conflict of interest arises when they are a therapist themselves.

It is irresponsible for those lacking formal psychological training and experience with extreme mental health care (which those unable to consent must reckon with) platform non-objective authorities such as therapists with Borderline who are personally motivated to assert this narrative.
